Here is a list of study skills resources (i.e. reading strategies and note-taking systems) and test-taking strategies to help manage test anxiety and prepare effectively.

Between school, family, work, and other responsibilities, schedules can fill quickly and it can be easy to become overwhelmed and tired. One way to take action against these feelings is to work towards improving the way that you divide your time and focus on different activities.

Here is a guide put together by Student Success that discusses ways to schedule assignments, plan out your week, and manage tasks.

Assignment calculator: This tool allows you to enter the date you start working on an assignment and the date it's due to give you a suggested timeline for research, drafting, and reviewing the assignment. This can be helpful as you look ahead in classes to plan ahead with your time.

This article, How to Stay Productive While Studying at Home, is written by a student who talks about what helps her to be productive while studying at home. Pay special attention to the various scheduling techniques she discusses in point number four.

Letting your professor know what is going on is so important as the earlier they know about a situation, obstacle, or emergency the better they can assist you. Sometimes it can be intimidating can reach out to a professor and share what is going; however, if you don't reach out and ask, then you'll never know!

Another tip for communicating with professors is to think through a potential solution and mention that to the professor. For example, if you went to the ER for an emergency and needed some more time to submit an assignment. You would share with the professor when you were in the ER, request more time for the assignment ("Would it be possible for me to submit the assignment to you by _____?"), and discuss what you have completed ("I have already complete the first two parts of the paper so I know I can complete the remaining two parts by _____.").

The Writing Center’s mission is to coach undergraduate and graduate students in all stages of the writing process through collaborative, interactive, and individualized online or in-person sessions. Our goal is to help students become more effective, confident, life-long writers through critical thinking, self-observation, and the application of sound writing principles and strategies.

We offer 40-minute online or on-site consultations that are designed to help demystify the writing process. These consultations take the form of conversations on topics of your choice: for example, brainstorming ideas, developing your thesis statement or research question, organizing or outlining your paper, determining appropriate forms of evidence or support for your claim, avoiding plagiarism and citing sources, or strengthening your writing at the sentence level. Please note that we will not “fix” your paper for you. Instead, we are here to empower you with the thinking and writing tools you need to reach your academic goals. We are not editors, but teachers.

Students may make up to three 40-minute appointments with the Writing Center per week.
